Going Green With Your Juicer

Juicing is a natural way to improve your body's health and appearance. It is also a great way to save Planet Earth. How you may ask? Think about it...

When you purchase local fruits and vegetables you are encouraging the farmers to stay on the land and provide us with the foods we need to maintain our good health. Large supermarket chains truck their produce in from all over the country. The trucks consume hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel each year and their exhaust fumes contribute to air pollution. Processing plants, by their very nature, emit toxins into our air as they compress, preserve and remove the nutrients from our food.

And what about the juice bottle manufacturers? How many individual bottles of juice are sold each year? Millions! And what are they all made out of? Plastic. Chemicals and our precious fossil fuels are used to create these plastic containers and plastic does not disintegrate very quickly in our landfills. Scientists calculate approximately 500 years before a single plastic bottle is completely broken down. And we just keep adding to the landfills daily.

Instead of cluttering up the landfills why don't we compost? When you use your juicer there will be remnants of the fruits and vegetables you used for the recipe in the filters. Take these leftovers and begin a compost section in your garden. Eventually you will be composting enough material to have your very own vegetable garden or maybe even a small orchard lush with nature's produce. Eating healthy and helping preserve the planet is the best part of going green.

Starting your own garden can bring a family together doing one common thing. Today's families are rushing, working, practicing and family time seems a thing of the past. Can you picture the kids getting their hands dirty in the black earth, mixing in some of your natural compost, planting the seeds and watering them? What happens when you check on the garden a week later? The look of amazement and wonder at what they have created is a sight to behold. And when the vegetables ripen they can help with the picking and getting things ready for the juicer. That's the stuff memories are made from.
